Fan Dongwang's extraordinary images explore the shifting nature of Australian culture from the perspective of an artist trained in Chinese painting and low relief carving. The Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour City initiated the cartoon competition in 1989 to provide the proposed Regional Art Gallery with a collection of cartoons that were to provide the city with a unique specialization. The Competition recognizes the best of Australian and International cartoons with prizes totaling over $10 000. The Awards are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour City to raise funds for various Rotary charities and to promote cartooning through the Bunker Cartoon Gallery and other galleries in Australian.

Day 2 - Saturday 2nd September at 12.30pm - special showing of 'Oliver Twist starring Ben Kingsley, a great film for students. Special price of $25.00 for a family. Other films to be shown over the course of the festival include Ten Canoes, The Squid and the Whale, Ballet Russes, Footy Legends and The Three Burials of Mesquiades Estrada.

The 2006 Helgott Finalists Concert will feature four young instrumentalists aged up to 21 years, each of whom will present a program of music to an independant panel of judges. Finalists include; Adam Herd - piano, Suzanne Sherrington - flute, Joshua Tuck - guitar and Michael Davis - piano. The winner will receive a scholarship, valued at $3,000 to support thier music tuition.
